The manga The Wicked King and the Secret Memory by Akihito Yoshitomi has officially come to an end. The story of an ordinary office worker who suddenly awakens in a world ruled by a wicked king will close with its fourth collected volume, set to release in Japan on October 15.

Final Chapter Released on Comiplex

On August 29, the digital platform Comiplex published the final chapter of Monty Paradise - Ijiwaru na Ōsama to Himitsu no Kioku, better known internationally as The Wicked King and the Secret Memory. With that release, the manga’s serialization officially concluded after just over a year of publication.

The series will total four collected volumes, with the fourth and final volume marking the official end of Heita Tsukigami’s strange adventure.

A Story of Mystery and Survival

At its core, The Wicked King and the Secret Memory blends suspense, fantasy, and survival drama. The story follows Heita Tsukigami, a 26-year-old salaryman who falls asleep on the train after work, only to wake up in a mysterious garbage dump.

There, he meets a girl named Ema, who pulls him into a bizarre new world. This strange place is ruled by a cruel king, and Heita must figure out his role if he hopes to survive. Between its mystery-driven plot and high-stakes tension, The Wicked King and the Secret Memory keeps readers hooked until the very end.

Akihito Yoshitomi’s Creative Journey

Akihito Yoshitomi launched The Wicked King and the Secret Memory on Comiplex in April 2023, with the first collected volume released in October of the same year.

Yoshitomi is known for his ability to move between genres, often surprising readers with new themes and approaches. In recent years, he has wrapped up several other projects, including:

  • Kyō kara Mirai (February 2023)
  • Meikyū Biyori (December 2022)
  • 24-ku no Hanako-san (April 2022)

However, Yoshitomi remains most famous for his classic Eat-Man, which ran from 1996 to 2002. Its sequel, Eat-Man The Main Dish, followed from 2014 to 2019, while the original series even inspired two anime adaptations in 1997 and 1998.

Beyond that, Yoshitomi has contributed to notable works like Ray, Blue Drop, and the manga adaptation of the crossover Cyborg 009 Vs. Devilman, solidifying his reputation as one of the most versatile creators in the manga industry.

Final Thoughts

With the release of its fourth and final volume, The Wicked King and the Secret Memory concludes a short but impactful journey. From its mysterious opening to its survival-driven climax, the series once again demonstrates Akihito Yoshitomi’s skill at crafting unique and memorable stories.

For longtime fans of Yoshitomi, this ending is bittersweet—but it also adds another strong entry to his already diverse and influential portfolio.
