Yui Samidare

The sixteen-year-old protagonist of Danganronpa Kirigiri. She gives her assistance to Kyoko Kirigiri, who is younger by three years. Yui's initial DSC number is 888; as the story progresses, she is promoted, and her DSC becomes 887.

Yui is a very normal high school girl, but she doesn't like to talk about her family. Her detective skills are average compared to Kyoko, though she is still very intelligent and has solved many cases on her own. She sees detectives as people who should fight for justice and gives off the image of a reliable older sister. She's usually reasonable and analytic, although she sometimes seems kind of thoughtless for a detective. She is very precautions every time she starts an investigation and at times can be very protective. Because she has lived on her own for a long time, Yui sometimes has a hard time relating to certain people and subjects.

When Yui was a child, her younger sister was kidnapped and killed, and the case remains unsolved. This fueled Yui's desire to become a detective and resulted in her turning down an invitation to attend Hope's Peak Academy with her talent of jumping so she could become one. She boards at an exclusive all-girls' combined middle and high school, which is known to be an extremely popular missionary school for wealthy girls. Since attending high school, she has been living in the school's dorm rooms. She is also one of the few detectives in her school, and was the first student in the school's entire history to ask for permission to work as a detective in her high school years. In order to prioritize her work as a detective, Yui didn't have a lot of social life and didn't attend any clubs.
