Ereshkigal is the Goddess and ruler of the Netherworld in Sumerian Mythology. She and Ishtar are sister goddesses, polar opposites representing life and death, thus holding a rival relationship.
She was assigned to oversee the Netherworld at birth and upheld her duty with utmost care but inevitably started envying the freedom and carefreeness of her counterpart Ishtar opposed to the utter solitude she was bound to endure. While her sister was revered and pampered Ereshkigal desired nothing more than for someone to see her as she truly is, to not be judged for being the avatar of death.
~!Due to their nature, Ishtar and Ereshkigal are always summoned together and inhabit the same body.!~
