Joseph Bernhard

Jürgen and Irisdina’s father. Joseph was institutionalized at the Greifswalder General Hospital Jürgen after becoming a severe alcoholic and danger to himself and his family following his divorce, deteriorating further due to physical and mental illness.

Before the divorce, Joseph was a diplomat assigned to many countries both East and West of the Atlantic, including the Soviet Union. Along the way, he gained many friends and a collection of films from all over the world. His broad perspective led him to voice critical opinions about the current system in East Germany. Jürgen's travels with him as a child greatly influenced his own perspective.
